Milner, Yisrael-Meir
Yisrael-Meir, son of Henia and Ze’ev Milner, was born in 1930 in Warsaw, Poland. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel with his parents and the family settled in Haifa. He was the only child of his parents but they did not spoil him, and did not prevent him from a very young age from participating in demonstrations, camps and training in the Haganah. Yisrael-Meir took part in activities to send illegal immigrants to Palestine. When he was 16, he lied about his age and joined the Nutras. He was sent to Hanita and later to Nahariya and was particularly interested in the various types of weapons. With the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was one of the fighters of the Carmeli Brigade. He was known among his comrades-in-arms as a good friend. On his way with his friends to the besieged kibbutz Yechiam to bring water to the site, they ran into checkpoints, staffed by gang members. In this battle he was hit and tried to continue firing, but he could not use his rifle. He crawled to the car and fell on the 9th of Shvat 5708 (January 20, 1948.) He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
