Michelson, Shmuel

Son of Rachel and Zvi, was born in 1921 in Piotrkow, Poland. He had a thorough education. In 1934 he immigrated to Israel and worked here as a packer and then in polishing diamonds. Shmuel was devoted to his home and supported his mother. He was a member of the Haganah and active in the defense of Tel Aviv from the first days of December 1947. From there he was transferred to the Jordan Valley region, participated in the evacuation of the children from the bridge and the protection of the Sha’ar Hagolan. Shmuel was a soldier in the unit that was in the Tzemach police building when the Syrian army invaded. This building was occupied by the Syrians. After the place was conquered again by us; it was impossible to identify the fallen and they were brought to rest in a grave in the military cemetery in Degania Aleph. After clearing the ruins of the Tzemach police station, a letter was found that Shmuel wrote to his family and did not manage to send. The letter is dated May 17, the day the police building collapsed. In this letter he wrote that he was in Zemach, and that he was fine and that they were shelling the building.. According to this certificate he fell in Tzemach on the ninth of Iyar 5708 (18.5.1948).
