Michaeli, Amnon

Son of Sarah and Moshe, was born in 1930 in Jerusalem and studied at the Tachkemoni School. In the absence of the father, who migrated to France, Amnon was the youngest of the family. He took care of the mother and his little brother as much as he could; he helped the housework, her nose, her cock, her son, Schiffer. His mother, who supported the house from her work as a seamstress, saw him as a helpful and loyal assistant. He was endowed with exquisite intelligence. And in his love for life and plants he installed “animal corners” in the house and yard, where he raised dogs, cats, turtles, fish and birds. He was a member of Hashomer Hatzair. At the age of 12, he was active in the Gadna, large and strong, above his age, and in 1945 he went to a vocational training center in Negba where he spent six months and returned to Jerusalem, where he was admitted to the Amal vocational school where he studied for two years. He immediately enlisted in active service despite the entreaties of his mother, who claimed that he was only 16 and did not have to be drafted. His reply was that anyone who could enlist was obliged to do so, and not now was the time to pry around for years. He was active in many defensive operations on the outskirts of Jerusalem. Amnon was one of the members of the “Halachah” Department, Palmach and Hachash fighters who were sent as reinforcements to Gush Etzion after the large attack on the Gush on January 14, 1948. The fighters left Hartuv on the night of January 15-16, And equipment, but due to the late hour of departure and the difficulties of the road, they were unable to reach Gush Katif in the middle of the night, when the department was discovered by villagers in the vicinity of the villages of Beit Natif, Jaba and Surif, “Battle Hill” today) and fought with the masses of Arabs until they all fell in battle on the day of the 15th of Shevat 5708 (16.1.1948). Amnon was seventeen when he fell. He was buried in a mass grave in Kfar Etzion. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
