Michael, Meir-Chen

Son of Reuven and Rachel, members of Kibbutz Afikim. He was born on 22.6.1935 in Afikim (the father was a counselor to the immigrant youth and later was a teacher in the kibbutz’s later classes). He completed his studies at the kibbutz elementary school, visited the agricultural school at Beit Yerah and the “Shevach” vocational school in Tel Aviv. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1954 and completed a parachuting course and several other courses, participated in various battles and clashes with the enemy, and finally, on 9 August 1956, on a bus to Eilat, he fell in battle near Ein Yahav. He was laid to rest at the cemetery in Afikim.
