Metterney, David

Born in Turkey on September 6, 1929, he was born in Havana, Cuba, where he grew up and studied. When he heard about the UN General Assembly decision he found a link with the Irgun Zvai Leumi and joined the Maccabim group, which dealt with military training and prepared to immigrate to Israel. At the end of the training period, David and his comrades were sent to France where they met comrades from various countries. They boarded the Altalena together and sailed to join the fighters. On the fifteenth of Sivan 5708 (22.6.1948) he was killed on board the Altalena. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak. His name was immortalized in the book “Remembering Forever,” the memorial book for fallen soldiers of the Irgun, and in the book Altalena.
