Meshulam, Gabriel


Son of Sarah and Ben Zion. He was born in 1916 in Bitola, Macedonia, Yugoslavia, where he graduated from elementary school and later studied at the Talmud Torah, and was an active member of the “Hatem Halutzim” youth movement and later in “Tekhelet Lavan”. He immigrated to Palestine and worked in the citrus orchards, where he joined the British army during World War II, and in March 1941 he was sent to Greece to stop the German invasion of the country. He reached his family in Yugoslavia, where he worked with his family in making cheese and was subject to restrictions imposed by his government on German and Bulgarian Jews. In March 1943 every Macedonian Jew was taken to Treblinka, Gabriel them – where he died. He left two brothers. His name was immortalized in the book “Kovshim and Builders.” His burial place is unknown.
