Meshulam, Avraham (Avi, Avrami)
Avraham (Avi, Avrami), son of Miriam and Joseph, was born on January 27, 1954 in Kibbutz Yakum, where he studied at the elementary school and at the kibbutz high school. He was a lively and curious student and loved his teachers and friends, was a member of the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement, and was an avid sports enthusiast for running and swimming. His friends say that he would like to tell jokes and practicalities, and his jokes were witty, original and amusing, he loved pranks and tricks, and he knew He was always decisive and honest, and he had great self-confidence, and with his perseverance and determination he was able to finish everything he started. Avraham was drafted into the IDF in February 1972 and was assigned to the Golani Brigade. After basic training, he took part in a course for sappers and a course for infantry commanders, and was assigned to one of the brigade units. In his unit, everyone recognized him as a responsible and dedicated soldier. His commander testified that he was “one of the best in the department, he had a natural leadership ability, he had a sense of humor, no one could resist him, he was a very good soldier, and he was exceptionally resourceful. The job is pleasant and comfortable, loved by all, and always ready to help anyone in need. ” During his service he tried not to worry his parents, and never complained about the difficult training. He always made sure to write letters home to calm his parents and keep them from worrying. During the Yom Kippur War, Avi participated in battles against the Syrians on the Golan Heights. On the 8th of Tishrei 5734 (October 8, 1973), during the first attempt to conquer Mount Hermon, he fell in battle against a Syrian commando force. He was awarded the “Medal of Valor” for the discovery of heroism in carrying out his combat duties. “On October 8, 1973, the late Corporal Avraham Meshulam served as a machine gunner. After his department received an order to extract strength in a difficult situation, he headed the platoon and fired his machine gun. Some of the department members were hurt. Corporal Avraham Meshulam zipped the platoon commander, who was injured in his hand, despite the intense fire that endangered his life, and later replaced the enemy’s position, and together with the late deputy Effie Shneur charged the position and liquidated it. After the occupation was taken, he was killed. Corporal Avraham Meshulam, of blessed memory, excelled in great courage, in his coolness and dedication to the mission. ” He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Yakum. He was survived by a father, mother, brother, and two sisters. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Avraham contributed a great deal to his company and was an example to his comrades in his dedication to carrying out missions.” His parents and his kibbutz published a pamphlet in his memory, including his memoirs, letters, photographs, poems and paintings; In the newspaper “Israel’s Soldiers”, a list was published about him when he was awarded the “Medal of Valor”.
