Mermelstein (Berkowitz), Yehudit


Daughter of Feiga and Yitzhak. She was born in 1919 in Sannac, near Bratislava, Czechoslovakia, where she was educated in a religious atmosphere and after graduating from high school she studied the profession of child care in order to help support the family. In 1930-1933 she studied in Switzerland and Belgium. Her parents joined the “Mizrachi” training farm in Galicia, Petrzalki and Munkaczow, and in 1935 immigrated to Eretz Israel, where she worked in her profession, and later worked in one of the branches of “Bethlehem” in Tel Aviv, mainly in helping the wounded. After her marriage, in the summer of 1938, she immigrated with her husband to the forests of the Carmel, and was a devoted Jewish wife who was devoted to her family and friends at work and planned to bring a family to Israel, but she did not win. While traveling in a car on 18 Av, 15.8.1938, she was returning from a visit to her husband at the hospital in Haifa, she was seriously injured and on 19 Av, August 16, 1938, she died. She left a husband in Israel and parents in Czechoslovakia. Her name is mentioned in the memorial booklet “In memory of the fallen of the Carmel Forests”.
