Merdix, Yaron

Yaron, son of Anda and Pinchas, was born on December 23, 1951, in Tel Aviv. He studied at the Katznelson Elementary School in Givatayim, at the Degania Elementary School in Be’er Sheva, and at the military boarding school near the Herzliya Gymnasium in Tel Aviv. As a child, Yaron was a good student, a kind and cheerful boy, loved by his teachers and friends. He was a sports fan, especially soccer, and used to play himself and watch the matches of Israeli teams and foreign teams. After graduating from elementary school, he wanted to attend the military boarding school, because he already wanted to be a career army officer. At the military boarding school, Yaron also stood out as a talented and diligent student, and also as a handsome young man, and all remember his blond hair mane. Wrote his good friend of those days: “The Yaffa and modest man of the boarding school.” Yaron was very attached to his family, his grandparents, and during his vacations he used to visit them. He also excelled at the boarding school and was an actor on the soccer team of the Mossad. Yaron was drafted into the IDF in early August 1969 and volunteered for the Armored Corps and completed many courses in the IDF: Infantry Corps, Tank Commanders Course, Officers Course, Armored Officers Course and Armored Corps Course. In his compulsory and permanent service, Yaron held a long line of command positions in tank units. He excelled as an excellent commander and was considered an officer with strict principles regarding maintaining a timetable, accurate reporting and discipline. As for his commanders, he was a loyal and obedient officer, and with his subordinates he was a dedicated and considerate commander. For a while, Yaron was the deputy commander of the Armored Corps school and was a knowledgeable instructor in armor and tanks and as a responsible commander. After leaving Armored Corps he served for long periods as commander of a tank division in Sinai. Out of dedication and love to his family, he used to spend a lot of time at home reading and listening to music. Sometimes he went out to travel with his friends in Israel. In the Yom Kippur War, Yaron commanded a tank company that fought in the southern sector of the Suez Canal. He took part in the braking battles against the Egyptian forces, who crossed the canal, and fought in the area of ​​the “Lituf” stronghold, south of the Little Bitter Lake. The mission of his unit was to rescue the people of the strongholds and he fought stubbornly and stubbornly until the last bullet. On October 7, 1973, Yaron was hit and killed by a missile in his tank. He was brought to eternal rest in the Ashdod cemetery. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to captain.
