Mendil, Shlomo


Son of Reina and David, was born on January 14, 1924 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, and in 1933, when he was 10 years old, immigrated to Israel with his parents, where he settled in Jerusalem and completed his studies In the short period between his service as a “Gafir” and his enlistment he worked as a laborer, and as a member of the Haganah, he did not miss a single day to fulfill the role he was charged with. Responsible for it – saved the lives of four nuns, who remained in one of the rooms, when he entered under a shower of shots into the building and took them out. The hospital, and before its complete recovery, succeeded in escaping from there, in order to join the forces in the conquest of Ein Kerem, which fell on the day of the Fourth of Tammuz 5707 (July 10, 1948). He was buried in Sheikh Bader Aleph. On the 28th of Elul 5710 (10.9.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
