Mendil, Shimon


Son of Margalit and Yitzhak was born on July 5, 1957 in Tel Aviv, where Shimon studied for five years at the Ayalon Elementary School in Tel Aviv and when his family moved to Rishon Le-Zion, he completed the Habib elementary school. Shimon was drafted into the IDF in early November 1975 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. After basic training, he underwent an artillery course and was appointed commander of a moving gun. When he reached the time of his release, Shimon decided to continue his service in the IDF and served in a permanent position and then signed a career service and was transferred to the Maintenance Corps, where he completed an officers’ course and a maintenance officer course. Shimon married and the couple had a daughter, and on the first day of Operation Peace for the Galilee, Shimon went to Lebanon. On March 16, 1983, Captain Shimon fell in combat in Lebanon and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion. After his fall, he was promoted to the rank of Major. He left a wife, daughter, parents and two brothers.
