Mendelssohn, Yair (Yaiko)


Yair (Yayko), son of Phanny and Zvi, was born on the 27th of Shvat 5713 (27.1.1953) in Kfar Shmuel. Yair was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early August 1971 and assigned to the Artillery Corps, where he was trained and dedicated to his position, with great knowledge and technical resourcefulness. In the Yom Kippur War, Yair’s unit fought the battle of containment against the Egyptians in the Sinai, and on October 20, 1973, Yair was hit and killed in a heavy shelling in the central sector opposite the Chinese Farm. – He died in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul and left behind a father, a mother and a brother A trust fund was established in which a scholarship was awarded to an outstanding student from the Shimon son of-Zvi High School in Givatayim.
