Mendel, Yishai


Yishai, son of Sarah and Leon, was born on January 7, 1954, in Tel Aviv, where he studied at the Bar-Kochba elementary school and at the “New High School” in Tel Aviv. Ehud, his teachers, his friends and his family, he excelled in social activity, and he was a young and handsome figure in every society and every group of young people, and he loved soccer and sports. Yishai was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1972 and assigned to the Communications and Electronics Corps. After completing basic training, he successfully completed many professional courses: wireless course, radio and radio operator course, radio and radio operators, radio and radio operators, and his excellent leadership skills and excellent ability to express himself. He was very fond of his apprentices and was very fond of his apprentices: Yishai loved the training and every course in which his students completed their studies and training, filled him with great joy and gave him great satisfaction. He was a liaison in the half-track of the armored corps that fought in Sinai. During the battles he was part of the Armored Corps that broke into the city of Suez to complete the encirclement of the Third Army of the Egyptians. His half-track crew went out to rescue the wounded on the main street of Suez under heavy fire, and the half-track was hit and the crew jumped out of it. For a long time Yishai was considered missing. Investigations revealed that he was injured and killed on October 24, 1973. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by his parents and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant. In a letter of condolences to the bereaved family, then-Defense Minister Moshe Dayan wrote that Yishai was a good soldier, a loyal and sympathetic friend. The journal “New High School”, named “Yuval”, dedicated a chapter in memory of Yishai, in which members, teachers and family members spoke of his character.
