Mendel, Emanuel


Son of Yaffe and Moshe, was born in 1931 in Jerusalem. After graduating from elementary school, he began working as an electrician with Or and Power in Jerusalem. At the age of 17, under the age of enlistment, he volunteered for the army and was one of the first recruits to the Jerusalem Brigade. He was sent with reinforcements to Kfar Etzion and was among the defenders of the village until the last battle. On the day of the village’s fall, he was also buried under the ruins of the bombed monastery building on Wednesday, May 13, 1948. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5706 (17.11.1949), he was brought to rest with the other victims of the Gush, The military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
