Meller, Shneur


Son of Menachem and Frida, born in 1911 in Glubokie, Poland, completed his elementary studies in Poland and immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1938. In Poland he belonged to Hechalutz, Maccabi and even to a soccer team. He was a member of the Hebrew Settlement Police during the Mandate period but in August 1948 he was drafted into the IDF and joined the regular army in 1948. He participated in all three wars imposed by the enemy: the War of Independence, the Sinai Campaign, and the Six Day War. The day of his death, on the 19th of Sivan 5728 (19.6.1968), in which he died of illness, left a wife, was brought to eternal rest in the Kiryat Shaul military cemetery. His wife also received a letter of condolence, praising him for managing the work in the unit’s workshop for the last twenty years of his life with exceptional efficiency and dedication. He was always willing to help others. “
