Mella, Karol-Chaim
Karol-Chaim, son of Zippora and Yaakov, was born in Vienna, Austria, on July 16, 1926. When the Nazis invaded Austria and took control of it, his family fled to Poland where the Russians took her to work in the mines In 1944, the family was sent to Uzbekistan, where the second brother died, and in the course of their journeys the family was forced to work hard and Karol bore the heavy burden. Karol immigrated to Israel with his family on board the ship “Altalena”. He participated in battles in southern Israel, enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to an armament corps. Carol was a kind man and was always willing to help anyone who turned to him for help. He was loved by people and easy to make friends, hospitable and with a broad hand. He was courteous and polite, gentle and pleasant. In 1952 he married his girlfriend Yehudit, and in the course of time he had a son and a daughter, and he educated them for the love of man and the love of the land. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, and he always made sure that his family would have nothing. Carol was a sports fan and very enthusiastic about football. During his time in Germany he was a goalkeeper on a Jewish football team that was organized there. He read a lot of different areas. He also took a photo of his beloved, and on his album he collected landscapes from his travels around the country. On the 27th of Cheshvan 5734 (21.11.1973) he died in the performance of his duties and was brought, the next day, to eternal rest in the cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left behind a wife, a son and a daughter, and two sisters. After his death he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Karol performed his duties with dedication, to the satisfaction of his superiors, and was admired by all his friends and commanders.”
