Melamed, Joseph (“Yossi”)
Son of Mordechai and Rachel, may she rest in peace. He was born on March 12, 1956, in Jerusalem. He studied at the Agron Elementary School in Kiryat Yovel, where he completed his studies at the Salisberg High School in Jerusalem, where Yossi was an outstanding student, and was awarded a scholarship for his academic achievements. He was active in various youth organizations and sports organizations and was also a member of the youth movement and was a member of the youth movement. Who participated in various Gadna courses and was awarded numerous awards. Yossi showed great talent in art and excelled in painting and graphics. The music played a good part of his spare time and he loved to play guitar, drum and listen to classical music records. During his vacations he used to work mainly in the metal art he had learned from his father. At a young age Yossi was orphaned from his mother, and his father, who raised him, was also a mother. This special relationship between the only son and his father was not severed during his service in the IDF, and Yossi was drafted into the IDF in August 1974 and placed in the liaison corps. After basic training, and after completing various courses in the field of communications, he graduated with honors. He was sent to a contact base and became known as an expert in his profession. On the 18th of Adar 5736 (February 19, 1976) Yossi fell during his service. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Corporal Yossi began his career as a regular wireless operator, was very successful in the life of the unit and was very proactive. Yossi turned his office into a hot nest for him and his subordinates. He spent his free time playing guitar and listening to music, painting landscapes, talking and singing with his friends who usually gathered in his room. Yossi was loved by all of us – his friends, subordinates and commanders – and his image will remain etched in our memories forever. “Yossi’s father established a scholarship fund for outstanding students in his memory at the school where he studied.
