Meir, Pinchas (Peter)
Son of Idit and Fred. He was born on April 21, 1929 in Hamburg, Germany. When he was 10 he immigrated to Israel and grew up with his uncle in Ramat Gan. His parents perished during the Holocaust. The mother – in the Auschwitz camp, and the father – lost track of him. Pinchas remained alone in Israel, first in his uncle’s house and later in a kibbutz youth group. He studied at the school in Givatayim and later at the high school of the Workers Stream and knew how to continue his studies. He was cheerful and Simcha, but from time to time he was sad, lost by family and orphanhood. Gradually, he developed a pioneering consciousness and love of the land, and he chose a social and kibbutz life. Although he wanted to continue his studies, but because he did not have the means, he went to the kibbutz early and joined the youth group in Sarid and later in Delia in 1944. He worked in the vegetable garden and loved agricultural life. In the training he stood out among his friends as a man who strives for truth, who does not settle for routine and in a way that can not be considered. In his letters, too, she was characterized by skepticism and striving for the roots and visions of life. He never argued about matters he did not know about ignoramuses and was not ashamed to ask and investigate. In April 1947, he joined the Palmach and in January 1948 he came to Yehiam and took part in the defense of the fortress, where he went to Hanita, took part in the battles of Mishmar Hayarden, attacked Zar’in and Acre, and carried out a sweep in the eastern Galilee. With his brigade, Yiftach, in front of the center of the city in days of constant tension and fighting, he showed courage, confidence and faith, He was seriously injured, and died of his wounds on the 29th of Iyar 5708 (June 7, 1948.) He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rehovot. The booklet “Ten Fallen” of the “Eretz Israel” Kibbutz, “Harel”.
