Meintau, Wolf (Walter)


The only son of Elsa and Zvi was born on 28 October 1928 in the city of Nuremberg, Germany. In 1933 he immigrated to Israel with his parents at the age of 11. Zeev has deep roots in the life of the country, studied at the Hugim High School in Haifa, and acquired his profession in the Tietz School. In 1944 he joined the Haganah, and in the years 1946-1947 he served in Notarot. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, he joined the army and served in the Carmeli Brigade in Haifa, Kfar Hahoresh, Hanita, and again in Haifa. Was straight and pleasant. His kindness and willingness to help stood out among all the members of the platoon. He volunteered for any dangerous mission and his job – the stretcher – was in his mind’s eye. Was “the youngest son of the department.” Tal – the childhood that was preserved in him gave freshness to all his friends at any difficult hour. In an attempt to rescue comrades-in-battle in a frontal position near Ramat Yochanan, during the conquest of Kfar Usha, he was hit and fell on April 16, 1948. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa.
