Medhala, Yaakov


Son of Barda and Shavti, he was born on 13.12.1931 in the Sha’arayim neighborhood of Rehovot, studied in the Talmud Torah and continued to study Judaism in Rehovot, but because of the economic situation he went to work as a courier in the post office. He joined the youth movement HaNoar HaOved and Gadna and took part in his travels. Together with his fellow members of the movement he joined agricultural training in Ramat David and Kfar Hittin. At the beginning of the War of Independence he came to his parents’ home on vacation, joined the Givati ​​Brigade and joined all his battles. Jacob fought in the battles of Sucre, Nachshon, the Castel and Tel Arish – where he suffered a mortal wound on his back. After the “Yoav” operation, a number of measures were taken to tighten the siege on the “Faluja pocket” by conquering the Egyptian “Burma Road”. In one of these battles, on an attack on the Seventh Fort south of Iraq-Suiden, he fell on 1 Cheshvan, 3 November 1948. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in the village of Warburg.
