Meckler, Ephraim


Son of Rachel and Chaim, was born on 22.1.1925 in the city of Wladimir, Poland. At the age of 11, he immigrated to Israel and continued his studies in Kfar Sava, the seat of the family, until the sixth grade of the elementary school. Ephraim grew up to a man of earth and a protector. He joined the Palmach and served for three years in a recruits in Kadesh Naftali, where he returned to Kfar Sava and served in the Hagai until his full enlistment in the Alexandroni Brigade, where he served as a paramedic. In an attack on the Midrasha near Beit Berl near Tzofit, he was wounded. With the entry of the Arab Legion into the fighting, Jerusalem’s situation worsened and the road to it was cut off by the Legion system in Latrun. The breakthrough was planned for Operation son of-Nun A, and its battalion was charged with attacking Latrun. The attacking force encountered better enemy forces and had to retreat. This battle fell on the 17th of Iyar 5708 (May 26, 1948). On the 17th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
