Mater (Mitek), Arieh (Lolek)


Son of Shifra and Chaim was born on 20 November 1927 in the city of Konigs-Huta, Poland, where he studied in an elementary school and was transferred to Sosnowiec in 1939. From 1942 he was interned in the Gruenber concentration camp and other camps, In 1945, he escaped from the concentration camp, where he lived on the Sala River in Germany, where he acquired a profession, photography techniques, and joined the “Nili” kibbutz in 1946. He joined the ” To Palestine in 1947. The ship was captured by the British and its passengers were deported to Cyprus, Aviv, where he thought he had to stay in Cyprus for 22 months until his turn to immigrate to Israel, and he decided to get out of there, and in April 1948 he took a daring swim in the sea until he boarded a ship that brought him to Israel. He served in the Yiftach Brigade, participated in battles in the Galilee and was wounded in his hand. In preparation for the first truce, the Yiftah Brigade was demoted to the central region and took part in the fighting in the Latrun area. At the end of the first truce, the brigade participated in the “Dani” operation and on July 17-18, 1948, towards the beginning of the second truce, the “Haemek” Battalion seized Shilat and controlled the eastern part of the Korikor ridge to threaten the wing of the Legion. In the morning it became clear that the Legion force was holding the western part of the ridge. The enemy attacked the force in the outpost from two directions with the aid of armored vehicles, and that was forced to withdraw. In the harsh retreat in an open area under crossfire, many of the fighters fell. In this battle, Arieh fell on the 18th of Tammuz 5708 (18.7.1948). He managed to live in Israel for only 3c months. On the 11th of Adar 5702 (28.2.1950) he was put to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
