Matalon, Eliahu


Son of Marcel and Naim, was born on October 2, 1945, in Iraq. In 1951, at age 6, he immigrated with his parents to Israel. The family settled in Ramat Gan, where he completed elementary school. Then he began to work at odd jobs to help support the family. In May 1963, he enlisted in the IDF, and after completing his basic training he was placed as a motorcyclist in the General Staff unit. After his discharge from the IDF in November 1965, Eliahu found his livelihood as a driver, and in October 1965 he was promoted to Corporal. Eliyahu wanted to learn and expand horizons. He had hoped to take some time off his work to complete his matriculation certificate. He used to go on trips with his family, and on these occasions he would explain to his children the connection between the places they visited and the Bible and history, and in December 1984 he was called up for reserve duty in Lebanon. 1985.) traveled in a military jeep. A Lebanese car passed by Marjayoun and a clash broke out between the two vehicles. The jeep in which Elijah drove was turned upside down and he was found dead inside. He was 39 years old. Eliyahu was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Holon. He left behind a wife, two sons, a daughter, a mother, two brothers and a sister
