Marok, Yitzhak-Yoel

Yitzhak-Yoel, son of Tova and Abraham, was born on February 20, 1948. When he was two, he immigrated to Israel with his parents. The family joined Kibbutz Ayelet Hashachar, where Yitzhak grew up and was educated, from kindergarten to high school. He was a good student at school and was very popular with his classmates. He loved acting and sports, and even completed a course for sports instructors at the Wingate Institute. His favorite sports were soccer, basketball and swimming. He also liked to travel, and when he was twelve he took a walk with two of his friends. They passed mountains, walked through the fields, and climbed hills on their way to Nahariya and back. Yitzhak was drafted into the IDF in early January 1967 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. After completing basic training, he took part in a course for infantry commanders, a rifle squad commander, and a parachuting course. When he reached the time of his release, after he managed to fight in the Six-Day War, he decided to continue his career in the career army and did five months in the career army. His friends from the unit said: “Itzhaki succeeded in liking everyone – from the High Command to the last of the cooks – when he came to our battalion, he brought with him a fresh air of youth, of shyness accompanied by great grace. He was humble and yet confident. ” In early May 1970, he returned to the kibbutz. In July 1971 he married Geula his girlfriend and moved to Kibbutz Sde Nehemia, where his two daughters, Anat and Maya, were born. After his marriage he began studying mechanical engineering at Ben-Gurion University in Be’er Sheva. He worked in the factory. In the Yom Kippur War he fought in the Golan Heights. On October 18, 1973, Yitzhak was in the command line, next to the radio, near Turungi village. The enemy shot a direct hit at the half-track and Yitzhak was hit and fell. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery at Sde Nehemiah. He left behind a wife and two daughters and parents.
