Markush, Abraham (“Pista”, “Avri”)


Son of Aharon and Elizabeth. He was born in 1931 in the city of Czandapce, Hungary, graduated from high school, immigrated to Israel in 1949. He was a member of the Bnei Akiva youth movement and was drafted into the IDF in December 1949. He was cheerful and kind and ready To lend a hand to the help of others, and this attitude showed to his comrades – his subordinates in the army. He always wanted to give them his own, to guide them and live with them. On the 28th of Elul 5766 (28.8.1955) he fell in combat near Be’eri and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He put down a wife. His memory was mentioned in Uri Milstein’s book, “The Paratroop Wars.”
