Markus, Mordecai (‘Mukai’)

The only son of Meir and Sarah was born on 28.8.1955 in Netanya. He studied at the Be’eri Elementary School. From childhood, he discovered a special ability to carve and sculpt wood, so he decided to continue his studies in a vocational school. He was accepted to the ORT vocational school and studied for four years in the carpentry track. Muki was an outstanding student (and even received a prize from the principals of the Peres School for his excellence), and at the same time dealt with various sports. His room is full of certificates and decorations awarded to him for his excellence. Mordecai grew up and became a Yaffa, handsome and gentle soul, connected to his family with all his soul and with all his might. He was particularly attached to his elderly grandmother, who was bedridden and worried about her need. Mordechai was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in early February 1974. He was assigned to the Supply Corps, where he underwent various courses, including a heavy truck driving course, and was stationed at the supply base in Sinai. From his work, his direct commander recalls: “To his commander, Mokai became a kind of second son. He was considered a household member of the family and was always eager to help with his two great hands, which were able to bring about wonders … The bookshelves, tables and other decorations were displayed in the only clubhouse and in the soldiers’ quarters, which he did. ” 1976), Mordechai was killed at a military cemetery in Netanya, and his father died a year and a half later in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “Mordechai was beloved For commanders and soldiers alike, was always willing to volunteer for any mission and to help anyone who wanted to. “Mordechai was a great example of soldiers in the unit, and his image will accompany us wherever we turn.” His family donated holy articles to a synagogue in Netanya
