Markowitz, Meir
Son of Genia and Yosef, was born in 1932 in Poland. In 1947, he immigrated to Israel and was educated as a youth member of Kibbutz Ginossar. At the outbreak of the War of Independence, Meir volunteered for the Palmach, but was placed in Battalion 73 of the armored 7C Brigade that was under construction, and with him he participated in Operation Son of-Nun B, which was intended to break through the road to Jerusalem. He was forced to retreat, and on this day he fell on the 30th of May 1948. On the 17th of Cheshvan 5706 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem
