Mark-Nathan Levi
Son of Helena and Salvador (Samuel) Andre, was born on September 18, 1921 in Paris, the capital of France. He was a medical student. After the occupation of France by the Germans, he participated in the activities of the Jewish underground in France during the German occupation, received the rank of officer in the French army and participated in the liberation of Paris. In May 1948 he immigrated to Israel and volunteered for the Negev Brigade. Mark-Nathan participated in the conquest of Beersheba. He would send descriptions from the front of the Zionist newspaper “Renaissance” (Tehiya) in France, which did much to arouse the hearts and testified to a distinct journalistic talent. Mark Natan was killed on his way to Tel Aviv, when the jeep he was traveling on board a mine, on October 25, 1948. The ceremony for handing over certificates to the first graduating class of Hebrew pilots in France, which took place after his death, was named after him. On the 6 th of Elul 5709 (August 31, 1949) he was transferred to the eternal rest of the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
