Marciano, Eliyahu (Eli)

Son of Aliza and Yaakov, he was born on the 25th of Cheshvan 5711 (5.11.1950) in Haifa. When he was two years old, the family moved to Be’er Sheva. Eli liked to sing and played the accordion, the guitar, and the organ. He was the living spirit at parties and loved by his many friends. Eli composed songs and composed them. At the beginning of February 1969, Eli was drafted into the IDF and assigned to the Military Police Corps, where he gave impeccable service and was promoted to the rank of sergeant. In his release certificate his behavior was described as good and his commanders estimated that he “carried out his duties to the satisfaction of his commanders”. After his discharge from the army, Eli married his girlfriend, Frieda, and the young couple moved to Hadera, where Eli worked as a qualified electrician in the Alliance tire factory in Hadera. On 25 Cheshvan, 11.11.1982, as a result of an explosion In the government building in Tire, the building collapsed and buried its inhabitants, among them the sergeant Eli. He was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery in Hadera. He left his wife, two daughters, his mother, three brothers and five sisters. In a condolence letter to the family, his commander wrote: “Eli was a quiet, disciplined and loyal soldier, loved by his friends and commanders. He often volunteered for missions.” His name was immortalized in the Ark of the Holy Ark and in a Torah library in his name donated by his mother to a synagogue in Be’er Sheva.
