Mansharov, Yosef


Son of Haim and Zinaida. Was born on January 1, 1959, in the city of Tskhinbli, Georgia, USSR. He was a child full of health and full of joie de vivre, a diligent child who showed skill in his craft. He installed a small workshop in his yard, where he repaired every broken instrument. He excelled in piano and painting, and his paintings were exhibited in many exhibitions in schools throughout the Soviet Union. He was interested in different types of sports: such as brain sports, not chess, but also simple athletics in ice skating and various ball games. Yossi studied nine years in an elementary school in his city. At the end of 1973 the family immigrated to Israel and settled in Tzur Shalom. After acquiring the basic Hebrew language in the Ulpan in Kiryat Haim, he was accepted to the ORT school in Kiryat Bialik. However, he soon moved to a vocational school in Kiryat Shprinzak where he graduated with a specialization in automotive mechanics. His great physical strength found an outlet in sports, especially in various ball games: volleyball and ballad. Thanks to his excellence in sports, he was included in the school’s football team. Joseph was a Simcha and cheerful lad. He enlisted in the IDF in early May 1976, when he was seven years old, Ten years and four months only. After basic training, he was assigned to an armament corps as a mechanic in a transport vehicle. He was one of the most beloved and wanted soldiers in the unit thanks to his human kindness and professional knowledge. On July 25, 1977, Yosef was killed in the Tzur Shalom cemetery and left behind his parents, brother and sister in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family: “Yosef was one of the outstanding soldiers In a workshop where he served as a mechanic. Was an excellent soldier who volunteered for every job in the same spirit of volunteerism that he had when volunteering for military service before he was 18 years old. His commander and friends loved him for his dedication, his responsibility, his discipline and his meticulousness in fulfilling his tasks. “
