Manovella, Moshe Meir
Son of Tamar and Elyahu. Born on the 30th of Tishrei, October 18, 1925 in Tel Aviv. Moshe Meir joined the British army in August 1942, and served two years in a Hebrew company of the Israel Defense Forces. He then moved to the Jewish Brigade, which was established in September 1944. In its ranks, he participated in battles on the Italian front, and also served in Holland, Belgium and Germany. After the end of the Second World War, he gave his share of assistance to the survivors of the Jewish Diaspora in Europe, and bringing immigrants to Palestine. Upon his return to Israel, after his discharge from the army, he moved to Rechovot, where he joined the Irgun Zvai Leumi. At that time, a unit of Polish soldiers from General Anders army, continued to park in and around the streets, causing riots from time to time. On the 12th of Elul, September 8, 1946, Moshe Meir was killed. He was laid to rest in the Nahalat Yitzchak cemetery. He left behind his parents and thirteen brothers and sisters.
