Dan, son of Greta and Carol, was born on 11.11.1947 in Bucharest, Romania, where he attended elementary school and high school for practical engineers. In 1970 he immigrated to Israel and began working as a building engineer at the Solel Boneh office in Petach Tikvah, where Dan was drafted into the IDF in late August 1971 and assigned to the infantry. He was released for health reasons and returned to work at Solel Boneh. In February 1973 he married his girlfriend Nadia, and the two lived in Herzliya. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, he was already in reserve duty, since he was called in September. Together with his unit he sat in the “Milan” stronghold on the Suez Canal. On October 7, 1973, the Egyptians attacked the stronghold with large forces. During the battle for defending the stronghold, Dan was killed and killed by fighting back from his position. He was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the Kiryat Shaul cemetery. He left behind a wife, a father, a mother, and a brother. After his fall, he was promoted to corporal. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Dan showed courage and ingenuity in the battle, and he acted with self-sacrifice and self-risk.” Defense Minister Moshe Dayan wrote: “Dan was a devoted soldier and a loyal friend, and he was fond of his commanders and comrades in arms.”
