Mangal, Zvi (Henk)


Son of Reizel (Shoshana) and Shlomo, was born on June 22, 1926, in the city of Krinitzi, Poland, to a family of Jewish tradition, grandson of Rabbi Shimon Sofer, He studied elementary school in Poland and learned about the Land of Israel and the new life he was living in. At the outbreak of World War II, he wandered with his parents and sister to Russia, where he knew his work and his life. After the war, his family returned to Poland, and Zvi, who was soaked with Zionist spirit, parted from the family and joined a group of young people who aspired to immigrate to Israel. In 1946 he moved with his kibbutz to Austria, and upon his first call to enlist he volunteered with his fiancée for the Haganah, and he arrived in Italy and was flown to Israel during the first truce. He served in the Givati ​​Brigade and fell in an operation near Faluja on the eighth of Heshvan 5709 (November 10, 1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Rehovot
