Manela, Moshe

Son of Manya and Baruch, was born on February 16, 1930 in the city of Breslau, Germany, and in 1934 immigrated with his parents to Israel. The family settled in Tel Aviv. Moshe liked nature, and often wandered around collecting plants, butterflies, insects, and birds. After he completed his studies he began to work and was a good friend and loyal employee. When the War of Independence began, Moshe joined the Palmach. He trained and worked in Ashdot Yaakov, and when the situation worsened in the Upper Galilee, he was sent with his platoon to Ramot Naftali. Moshe bravely carried through the hardships of siege and danger and encouraged his friends cheerfully. Moshe volunteered for every mission and participated in escorting convoys between Ramot Naftali and Menara and the Galilee in general. Later, he went down with his machine-gun platoon in a tower near Tiberias, took part in the harassment of Arab transport, and when the enemy’s fire forced him to withdraw and while obseving bombardment, he was hit by the shot of an Arab sniper and fell on the 2nd of Nissan, April 11, 1948 and was buried in Ginosar. On Adar 21, February 23, 1965, he was transferred to a military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
