Maltz, Shlomo
Son of Rivka and Yisrael. Born in 1908 in the city of Prest, Western Galicia, Poland, to a Hassidic and traditional family. In 1939 he immigrated to Eretz Israel in Aliyah Bet. In Israel, Shlomo worked and then settled in Tel Aviv, got married and began to engage in commerce. Shlomo had a sense of humor and was kind and agreeable to the people he came in contact with. He was an active member of the Haganah. At the outbreak of the War of Independence Shlomo served in the “Kiryati” Brigade and fought in the central region. On the 11th of Elul, September 15, 1948, during an exchange of patrols on the way to the observation post, Shlomo was hit by an enemy bullet near Beit Nabala. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery at Nahalat Yitzhak.
