Malma, Meir


Son of Sa’ada and Ovadia, was born in Tiberias in 1928. His mother fell ill with grief and died a week later, after a long treatment with plaster bandages, and his legs were completely closed at the age of 3. He also overcame an eye disease After completing his studies at the age of 15, he began to work as a carpenter, and when he was 16 he joined the Nutras and served in Kiryat Haim, where he served in Egypt, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, For excellence, obedience, and punctuality in carrying out orders Once, when he came home for Shabbat, he suggested that his father build a house for him in the place where he lived, and left his work in Haifa for seven months with his own hands, and was forced to leave his father. He was a member of the Haganah and served in the Golani Brigade, and after completing a course he managed to stay calmly in a room prepared for him in the new house, and since then he was in the Haganah, In assisting in the defense of the surrounding settlements and in Hebrew transportation. On the 29th of Adar I 5708 (29.2.1948) he went out in a van with eight young men to catch a car that, according to the headquarters of the local Haganah, had brought weapons to the Arab villages in the area. Because of the breakdown in the truck, they were forced to return to Tiberias, but he did not let his friends leave the mission due to the breakdown of the vehicle. At his request, they took an Egged taxi and set off again. Near Kfar Hitim they noticed the Arab car. At his command, the men prepared their rifles for shooting, and one of them fired a bullet and wounded a mortal wound. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Tiberias.
