Malka, Yosef


Joseph, son of Rachel and Shimon, was born in 1938 in Rabat, Morocco, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1956. Yosef was drafted into the IDF at the end of May 1961 and assigned to the Nahal Brigade. He completed a basic training course in the Nahal Brigade and after a period of service in his unit, was discharged to the reserve corps, where he completed a palasim course and when he was transferred to the Artillery Corps he took a 120mm mortar course and a regimental course. He was called to active reserve duty every year and participated in the Six-Day War, where he was awarded the title of “Six Day War.” Joseph was an exemplary husband to his wife Leah and his four children – three sons and one daughter – loved them. He was very attached to his parents, who also lived in Netivot and visited them at every opportunity. At the Atara Diamonds in Netivot, during the Yom Kippur War, Yosef took part in the battle against the Egyptians in the Sinai Desert on October 14, 1973. He was killed in an artillery shelling near the Beluzah. In Netivot, left behind a wife, three sons and a daughter, parents, brothers and sister, and was promoted to the rank of corporal
