Gedaliah grew up in Kiryat Arba, a rural settlement that allowed him from infancy to connect with nature, to wander freely in gardens and fields around his home, surrounded by the valleys and hills of Hebron, planted with vineyards He spent a lot of time outdoors, under the sky and in the clear air.In his years of study at the Hebron Talmud Torah and the religious school in Kiryat Arba, Gedaliah expanded his horizons by reading the local library and his parents wondered how he acquired English at a mother tongue level Only after the Bar Mitzvah, Gedalya moved to the yeshiva in the high school in Heispin, in the Golan Heights At the time Gedaliah worked as a technician and computer programmer and ran a company called Compatik for the sale, installation, training and repair of computers in the Golan Heights. “One of Gedaliah’s poems was written following a trip to the Rimon crater:” In the beginning God created the uproar / the flora and the fauna, and the great city. / The undemanding sea and the war / all that is buried behind the fear / and the cruel time that does not wait for anyone. Tired of his soul and sought rest / He went and created the desert with a long, slow breath / The silence of the stones and the hiding among the mountains / The vast expanse that brings my soul out of the cage / And the calmness and serenity in a clear spring in a hidden corner. “In fact, that’s what I wanted.” “Gedaliah’s trips with a group of his contemporaries brought him to all parts of the country and the Sinai desert. He was well versed in wilderness survival, and had developed a skill in handling snakes. During the years he lived in the Golan, Gedaliah traveled with his friends on motorcycles and learned to repair and maintain motorcycles. At that time, he purchased a collection of music discs from around the world, and from the age of 18 began to study piano and compose musical compositions using the computer and the piano. Gedalia loved every man. He had close and courageous friendships with hundreds of youth he had met during his lifetime. Everyone was able to listen and sympathize, and they were very happy. With all his soul and body he has always fulfilled the commandment of “Love thy neighbor as thyself”. In his youth, he was a counselor in the Bnei Akiva movement and was involved in guiding marginalized youth in poor neighborhoods. Later he was active in the Gesher movement, and worked in partnership and connection between the religious and the secular. From an early age, Gedalia developed a special sensitivity for the disabled and the needy. His heart was pinched by the loneliness of his brain-damaged sister, and at the age of ten he had made phone calls to amuse her and dispel her boredom. In anticipation of his release from the army, he began to plan ways to care for and support his sister, to relieve the burden of his aging parents. When he studied at the Midrasha in the Upper Galilee, Gedalia volunteered to help the elderly in the nearby retirement home and instructed them to use the computer. Gedalia has the gift of constant giving. He often gave gifts, made people happy on birthdays or when they were depressed. As a soldier, he used to distribute packages to soldiers who had no one to send them. Gedaliah wrote in the notebook that these were gifts to buy to loved ones, all from a soldier’s salary, without asking anything from his parents. Gedaliah, extremely sensitive and gentle, respected every man. Always careful not to despise, to humiliate or denounce anyone. Even if someone had hurt him, he would have overcome the natural desire to respond. He held back, SethAnd forgive. In 1998-1999, Gedalia studied at the pre-military academy for leadership in Ma’ayan Baruch in the Upper Galilee, where he became acquainted with the Golani project and in November 1999 he joined the Golani Brigade, the “HaBokim” battalion. 51 “The spirit overrides the weakness of the body, His parents, who appreciated the difficulty of joining a combat force, suffered from a medical problem, and Gedaliah successfully completed the course and the course of the squad commanders. In his attitude to his subordinates and to the Arab public he met in his posts, Gedalia was careful not to humiliate or humiliate anyone, Where Gedaliah was able to “finish” an affair with a confused or bad soldier, but Gedaliah was patient and strong, and maintained the soldier’s dignity, while seriously investing in solving problems. They apply Gedalia’s example and adopt his methods of preserving human dignity and cleanliness as commanders, and during his service Gedalia was promoted to the rank of sergeant. He joined the public relations group at the induction center for the Golani Brigade, and in the course of his work with the recruits he managed to raise the percentage of recruits to the Golani Brigade significantly Before Operation Defensive Shield at the end of March 2002, “When he heard that they were embarking on the operation, he immediately volunteered and went to his unit, which fought as a front force in Ramallah, when he entered the computer room, checked terminals and began to dismantle the drives that contained a lot of information. In those offices he used to expose the Palestinian Authority’s connection to the use of terror, and Gedalya came to his home for a short rest Another battle in Ramallah and immediately went to Jenin. He knew that his job involves midfielder deputy commander of great personal danger. During the seven days of continuous fighting in Jenin until his fall, he gave the officers and the soldiers a good spirit, and assisted in various missions with efficiency and with a big head. At the end of the 27th of Nisan 5762 (9.4.2002), at sunset, Gedaliah was hit and killed by a terrorist’s bullet. He was the last soldier killed in Jenin in Operation Defensive Shield. Two months before he turned twenty-two, he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl. Survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Gedaliah’s parents write: “You will be so lacking in the reality of life, because you have always been a great light in the house, you have been pleasant and quiet, along with a sense of humor and a wonderful way of speaking, so that every person who knew you thought you were the friend “Your friends need encouragement today, and we are trying to tell them that you did not go far – and that you are the only person who has the right to love, And your influence and your serenity will never be forgotten. “The family established the Yad Gedalia association in memory of Gedalia, and collects donations and directs them to fields that were close To the heart of Gedalia: helping disabled people and the handicapped, distributing food to soldiers from disadvantaged families, distributing reference books to combat soldiers, setting up a mobile synagogue for IDF units and more.
