Maklev, Uri (Zevulun)

Son of Rivka and David (from the Macleb family, some of whose sons were killed by the Arab rioters in the 1929 riots), was born on 29.6.1928 in Petach Tikvah to a religious and traditional family, He continued to study at the Ahad Ha’am Gymnasium and was one of the best students and remained faithful to the Jewish tradition (and even when he was in the service of the homeland, he was meticulous in his training in the camps and at a long and painful walk) Was prevented from desecrating the Sabbath on the journey.) Uri had a deep national passion and aspired to action, and even as a child he joined the Betar movement. In 1944, he joined the Irgun underground and, with his diligence and success in his studies, did not seem to devote much time and energy to the activities of the underground, (Such as the attack on the Ramat Gan police to confiscate weapons, in which Dov Gruner was captured) served as a liaison to the branch commander, He held a responsible position in the underground, and only he personally knew all the members and commanders, completed various courses and was promoted to the rank of sergeant and head of a group In the winter of 1948 he took part in operations against the British, but most of the operations were aimed at protecting Petah Tikva against the Arab enemy. He took part in the occupation of the Manshiyya neighborhood, in the north of Jaffa, and immediately afterwards headed the group to conquer the Jewish village, which directly threatened Petah Tikva. While covering his comrades with a “Bren” machine gun, succeeded in his mission to assure his group the way to connect with the other units and to break through the ranks of the enemy, but he himself was wounded and fell on the day of Nissan 5708 (1948). He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Petah Tikva.
