Maimon, Yaakov
Son of Shoshana and Aharon, was born on March 14, 1927 in Shivat Zion, near Rishon Letzion, where he grew up and worked in a garage, carpentry shop, a branch of the Anglo-Palestine Bank, and finally in the building. In his neighborhood, he was known as a traditionalist, a pleasant man, a public emissary in prayer and a Torah scholar, and he was also praised for his politeness. As a result of his illness he suffered hearing and his work at the carpentry shop was interrupted by three fingertips of his left hand. But he ignored all physical faults and devoted himself to the service of the homeland. At first he trained in the Gadna Brigade and later moved to Hayash and served in the brigade, Givati. “He participated in the defense of Rishon Lezion and later in the defense of the rest of the southern communities. Two squadrons from the Department toured the Gan Yavneh Park with two pistols and two grenades in their possession, and armed Arabs from the village of Abu Sawira saw them and opened fire at them.11 The patrolmen were killed and Yaakov among them on the 17th of Tevet 5708 (9.1.1948) (12.1.1948) was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Rishon Letzion. On January 24, Givati forces raided the village of Abu Suweira and blew up its houses.
