Magnaji, Benjamin (“Benny”)
Son of Yitzhak and Massa. He was born on the 15th of Marcheshvan 5710 (26.10.1950) in Moshav Hatzav. Like all the boys in the moshav, he would hear stories from the parents about the hardships of the long exile and the pogroms against the Jews that took place in Libya in 1945 and from members of European origin. He heard about the extermination camps and the Holocaust. He swore, along with his friends, that such would not happen again. The growth of the moshav boys was all forged between the Sinai Campaign and the Six-Day War, and Benjamin also grew up and became a sturdy boy. He attended elementary school in the moshav. When he grew up a little, he worked in his parents’ farm throughout the day, and he did not have many hours of leisure. In his spare time he liked to talk to his friends and exchange opinions, and in the evenings he used to read. On Friday nights and holidays he would meet with his friends at parties. By nature he was a quiet, smiling, shy boy. He was a comfort to his sick father, when he appeared before him and he was sturdy and Yaffa and his help in the farm would have pleased his father’s Lev. Until his enlistment, he would not have left the house and remained to nurse his sick father. He was drafted into the IDF in 1969. When he set out on his way, all the members of the family parted from him, and his eyes were filled with tears, and only Binyamin laughed at them. The parents and neighbors “What’s going on there?” He would reply with a smile, with broken words and say, “That’s okay!
