Magidi, Yonah

Yonah, son of Rachel and Avraham Magidi, was born on 24.1.1900 in the city of Ivenitz, Minsk. He immigrated to Israel in 1923. Upon his arrival he joined the defense of the settlements in Hadera and the surrounding area, and later worked as a construction worker. At the time he was a member of Hapoel Hatzair. In 1926 he married a wife and in 1930 went to Brussels, Belgium to continue his studies there in the Faculty of Medicine. With the outbreak of the 1936-1939 events, he devoted much of his time to the Hagana and studied various courses. In the War of Independence, he enlisted in fortifications in Neve Ilan, Kiryat Anavim, and Ma’aleh Hahamisha, where he was often subjected to heavy shelling, but was miraculously saved. On June 6, 1948, on his way to fortify the southern front of Jerusalem, he was hit by a shell near the Menorah Club, and after nine days, on the 8th of Sivan 5708 (June 15, 1948) he died. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Sanhedria in Jerusalem. He left a wife and a daughter.
