Mael, Franz-Wilhelm


Son of Feigel Helena and Zindel Salomon. He was born on November 12, 1916, in the city of Krakow, Galicia. After World War I he moved with his family to Germany. With the Nazis in power, he fled to Austria and began studying at the Faculty of Medicine in Vienna. With the annexation of Austria to Germany he moved to Italy and continued his studies there. In 1939 Franz immigrated to Eretz Israel and began studying bacteriology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Due to the difficult economic situation, he was forced to stop his studies and enlisted in the Guard Corps. On the 14th day of Tishrei (5.10.1941), Franz died during his service and was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on the Mount of Olives.
