Madmoni, Eliyahu

Son of Rivka and Yaish. Eliahu was born on April 4, 1938 in Jerusalem, where he studied at the Nir Etzion elementary school in Jerusalem and was a serious and diligent student, and in 1956 he enlisted in the IDF and volunteered for the paratroopers. And also participated in a course for squad commanders and a parachute training course. In Operation Kadesh he participated with his company in the battles of Mitla. In mid-May 1958, Eliahu volunteered for a career in the Border Police, and was assigned to serve in the Beit Shean sector, where he was a “very hot” figure, and the incidents there were commonplace. In the early days of his service in the Border Police, Eliahu stood out as an outstanding commanding officer, and was subsequently sent to a course for armored personnel carriers and completed successfully. Eliyahu was granted the rank of officer and he was appointed commander of the region. In this role he was responsible for the security of several communities, and especially for the security of kindergartens in those communities. Shortly after taking office, he managed to establish close contact with most of the residents. They saw it as the address for solving most of their problems. Eliyahu’s commanders admired him as an excellent officer with special qualities and a warm Lev. His subordinates loved him and looked for his closeness. During his service Eliyahu married Marcel and they had two sons: Amichai and Hanan. The family moved to Beit Shean, close to where Elijah served. The wife, Marcel, said that Eliahu was an exemplary family man. Every time he came on holiday, he would bring a bunch of field flowers. His hobbies were many and varied, such as shooting with pistols and skydiving, but mainly Eliahu loved the art of blowing the glass. In his home he had all the tools and appliances, and all over the house they remained like glass souvenirs he had created. On July 7, 1964, while guarding workers in the fields adjacent to the Jordanian border, a cross-border fire was fired at the security team. Eliyahu was hit and killed on the spot. Inspector Eliahu fell in the line of duty. He was twenty-six when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left a wife and two sons. After the fall of Eliahu and the appreciation of his work, the kindergarten in Moshav Yardena was named after him.
