Madian, Raphael (Jonas)


Son of Yosef and Sarah. Born in the city of Mashhad in February 1940. Immigrated to Israel with the Youth Aliya in 1950. Studied at the elementary school in Ashdot Yaakov, where he belonged to the Hanoar Haoved youth movement. He retired to the IDF in February 1958 and served in the Combat Engineering Corps. He was called up for reserve service, and even before the Six-Day War called to reserve duty. On the second day of the fighting, on the 27th of Iyar 5727 (June 6, 1967), he was in the half-track of the platoon commander, who was moving to rescue casualties, and during the rescue he fell on one of the enemy shells. He was buried in a mass grave with other comrades-in-arms who were killed at the Nahariya military cemetery, and was later transferred to a military cemetery in Netanya, where he was buried in a booklet published by the Netanya municipality. “Which was taken out by the engineering company in the Barak formation.
