Machlis, Yitzhak


Yitzhak, son of Chaya and Zalman Machlis, was born on October 24, 1926, in the city of Darbana, Poland and learned in yeshiva. His parents immigrated to Israel, but he and his sisters were left abroad. When the Nazis invaded Poland, Yitzhak fled to Russia and from there succeeded in immigrating to Israel in 1941. He went to study in Jerusalem, but was forced to stop his studies and help support his family. In Netanya, Yitzhak joined Maccabi, was a member of the Zvulun Yordei Yam Association, a guide and a squad commander. From 1945 Yitzhak was a member of the Hagana. In February 1948 he enlisted in full service in the army and took command of the Alexandroni Brigade. Yitzhak took part in many battles and military operations on the front of the center, and took part in the battle for Ma’anit Yitzhak While taking part in a tour of the Tulkarm Road, Yitzhak fell on the first of Heshvan 5709 (November 3, 1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya.
