Maccabi, Gideon (Gidi)
Son of Tamar and Haim. Was born on September 14, 1968 in Tel Aviv and his early childhood was spent in Petah Tikva. He attended Karol Elementary School in his hometown and continued his studies at the Champion vocational high school in Bnei Brak. Was a smiling, playful child surrounded by close friendships and a source of joy for his family. In August 1986, Gidi was recruited for regular service in the Israel Defense Forces, serving in the Border Police, in the Transport Center unit, and during his service, Gidi fell on the day of the 27th of Nissan 5759 (2.5.1989). The military commander in Holon laid down his parents, a sister and three brothers – Nurit, Yitzhak, Meir and Amnon – in a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the unit commander wrote: “Gidi was an exemplary soldier, performed every job very well and was a soldier admired by his comrades and commanders.
