Maayan (Stein), Moshe


Son of Yonah and Margita. He was born on February 28, 1948 in Novi Sad, Yugoslavia. In December of that year he immigrated with his family to Israel. In grades 1-4, he studied at the Shiva elementary school in the area, and spent the rest of his elementary years at the Bialik School in Holon, where he stood out as a basketball player. After graduating from elementary school, he was accepted to the “Mevo’ot Yam” fishing and shipping school in Mikhmoret. From the dawn of his childhood, Moshe was drawn to the sea. He loved sailing and swimming. By the time he was 16 and a half, he had traveled to overseas countries and passed through merchant ships in most European and American countries. Moshe was drafted into the IDF in August 1966. At first he served in the “Crocodile” submarine and in the Six Day War was one of the dozens of Simcha divers who returned home miraculously, after their submarine was heavily rocked by deep- Alexandria. After that he was to undergo a course on behalf of the Navy in England and return to the Dakar submarine, but this course was canceled and he was saved by a miracle and did not descend abyss with the submarine and its people. With the completion of his compulsory service, Moshe joined the permanent army. He served in Sharm el-Sheikh and participated in naval operations. Was a good son and a devoted friend. He was full of energy and confidence and in every society and in every situation he was a center and a center. He had a sense of humor and skill. On January 25, 1970, a day after he was wounded in the explosion of the ammunition truck in Eilat, he died of his wounds. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
