Lupu, Shlomo (Moni)


Shlomo (Moni), son of Matilda and Moshe Lupu, was born on May 12, 1918, in the city of Flavna, Bulgaria, and was a member of the Zionist youth movement. In 1935, he immigrated to Israel on the occasion of the first Maccabiah and he married. From the beginning of the War of Independence, Shlomo participated in the defense of Tel Aviv, fought for the liberation of the Galilee and participated in many battles. On the way to Jerusalem and the conquest of three villages in the vicinity of Latrun, Shlomo was killed on Balaton Hill near Tarshiha on the 7th of Tishrei, 5709 (October 9, 1948). Shlomo was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Nahariya. He left behind a wife, Kochava, and two daughters.
