Lugasi, Ziona
Daughter of Hananiah and Rachel. Born on April 11, 1956 in Afula, to a well-to-do family of Moroccan origin, she began her elementary studies at the Ma’alot school, where she moved to the Yehuda High School in Afula. To be a nurse, and when she reached the 11th grade, she stopped high school and enrolled in the nursing school near the Poriya Hospital in Tiberias. Her love for the nursing activities apparently stemmed from her long stay at the Tikkatanu club in the city, which operated in the afternoon. In this club she also served as a counselor, and thus learned to integrate into society and help the needy. Tziona could continue to finish her studies in her favorite subject, but when the time for her recruitment was over, she decided, first of all, to fulfill her duty and continue her studies after service. At the same time, four of her brothers served in the IDF, and on July 1, 1974, Tziona began her basic training course, where she was placed in the artillery corps and served at a southern base, far from the house. And was considered “a good, disciplined and responsible soldier.” Only eight months later, Ziona served her country with pleasure and satisfaction. But fate was cruel to her – on the 27th of Adar 5735 (10.3.1975) Ziona found her death during her service. She was laid to rest in the cemetery in Afula. Survived by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. These were the words of Ziona’s commander to the bereaved parents: “She was young and Yaffa and had served for about seven months, fulfilling her role perfectly, admiring her commanders and her co-workers, always willing to help her friends, always a smile of kindness on her face” .
